BHSS 2024: over 600 experts in Bologna to discuss the future of heart surgery

Bologna becomes the world hub of heart surgery with the third edition of the Bologna Heart Surgery Symposium - BHSS, from October 28-29, 2024 at the Bologna Congress Center. The international heart surgery congress encourages stimulating discussions among the global scientific community in the field of cardiology.

The two-day event was attended by more than 600 professionals, including cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, radiologists, anesthesiologists and perfusionists from 31 countries, including Japan, the United States, Brazil, South Africa, China, India, Canada, Korea and Saudi Arabia. The event focuses on aortic diseases, addressing key topics such as treatment of the aorta, new technologies applied to surgery, recent scientific discoveries and artificial intelligence.

The event, organized by Noema Congressi, has been held in Bologna since its first edition, thanks to the support of Davide Pacini, professor at the University of Bologna and Director of the Complex OU of Cardiac Surgery at Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria IRCCS of Bologna. Having brought the event to Bologna in 2022 earned Dr. Pacini the title of Bologna Ambassador, intended for influential figures from various fields interested in nominating Bologna as a venue for future conference events.

“We are proud to have become a point of reference for the scientific community and patients from all over Italy,” says Professor Davide Pacini, ”We think it is the fruit of a recipe made up of experience, training and skills made available to pathologies whose first enemy to fight is time. But also of chronic pathologies that need to be followed in high-volume, highly specialized centers.”

In addition to the traditional plenary sessions led by experts in the field, parallel sessions dedicated to perfusionists and nurses were introduced this year. Among the most interesting new features were real-time links to the IRCCS operating room, where world-renowned surgeons performed complex surgeries on the ascending aorta. The event also featured leading companies in the field in the dedicated exhibition area, supported by APT Servizi. On Monday evening, Palazzo Re Enzo instead received participants for the elegant Social Dinner.

Not surprisingly, Bologna was chosen as the venue for the congress, thanks to the charm of its historic center, easy accessibility, food and wine culture, and growing scientific and academic community; essential elements that make the city particularly well-suited to host international events, confirming it as a privileged hub for innovation in medicine.
