Bologna Airport Marconi on the rise: all-time passenger record in 2024

Easy accessibility is certainly a strong advantage in organizing an event in Bologna, rapidly reachable by car, high-speed trains and flights. The Guglielmo Marconi Airport, only 7 minutes away from the center, is an impotant asset for the city that continues to grow.

To date, Bologna Airport is one of the leading airports in Italy, connected to about 100 destinations, including more than 80 international ones, and served by over 40 airlines. Indeed, last year the airport ranked seventh in Italy in terms of passenger traffic, reaching the historic milestone of an impressive 9,960,205 passengers.

Given its strategic geographic location and the ever-increasing attractiveness of the city, the airport continues to improve its performance: August saw a total of 1,119,370 passengers (a change of +5.6 percent compared to August 2023), thus outperforming July 2024 and becoming the most heavily trafficked month in the airport's entire history.

In detail, those reporting the largest increases in August were passengers on domestic flights (278,188, +6.5 % compared to August 2023), but those on international flights also did well (841,182, +5.3% on August 2023). Meanwhile, the most flown destinations for the month were Catania, Barcelona, Tirana, Olbia, Palermo, Madrid, Brindisi, London Heathrow, Cagliari, and Rome Fiumicino.

During the 3 months of summer, the airport recorded more than 3 million passengers, for a total of 7,274,221 in the first 8 months of the year, representing an increase of 8.4 % compared to the same period in 2023--which foreshadows an even more remarkable result on the 2024 ranking of leading Italian airports by passenger traffic.

In addition to welcoming more and more passengers, the airport also demonstrates a continued commitment to Innovation and Sustainability, making them the key focus of its development plan through the BLQ Innovabilty project, with the aim of investing in digitization, predictive analytics, testing cutting-edge technologies and concrete actions to protect natural resources, improve the well-being of the surrounding community and provide safe and inclusive workplaces.
