The Convention Bureau works to promote Bologna as a destination of excellence for international medical and scientific congresses, trade fairs and sporting events, which represent an important driver of development for the area. The last few years have seen a consolidation of the destination's performance, placing it in the Top 50 globally and in the Top 3 in Italy among the convention destinations that host the highest number of international association congresses annually (ICCA Ranking 2023).

Daniele Ravaglia, President of Fondazione Bologna Welcome, comments, “I would like to express my most heartfelt thanks to the outgoing Technical Committee for the great work done in recent years in the area of congress tourism, thanks to which Bologna has established itself as one of the most sought-after destinations worldwide for the organization of major events, ranking in the Global Top 50 and Italian Top 3 of the ICCA Ranking. The value that major events bring to our territory is inestimable, in fact they generate a positive cultural, social, economic impact for the entire destination - and this thanks to an always fruitful collaboration between public and private. So I wish the new committee well on its work, and I am certain that they will persevere in their efforts to corroborate our position of excellence.”

The new chairman of the Technical Committee Celso De Scrilli adds, “The newly formed Technical Coordination Committee of the Bologna Convention Bureau is determined to continue and expand the work done to date, with the aim of making Bologna an increasingly attractive destination for events of international significance. We aim to enhance the sectors in which the city is rapidly consolidating, such as innovation, digital, and supercomputing, as well as other strategic areas that we will identify together with local operators. Thanks to the synergy between local players and the support of institutions, we intend to promote Bologna not only as a venue for events, but as a center of excellence capable of generating lasting economic, cultural and social impact for the entire community.”
