Women’s EuroBasket 2025 in Bologna: coming to PalaDozza from June 18 to 21
January 10, 2025
2025 promises to be a year of major events for Bologna, with sports taking center stage. One of the most important events arrives in June: from the 18th to the 21st, PalaDozza will host one of the final groups of the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2025, the European Women's Basketball Championship, where the continent’s top teams compete for the title every two years.
Organized by FIBA Europe, the European basketball federation, the event returns to Italy 18 years after its last edition, hosted in Abruzzo, and marks the eighth time the tournament is held in the country. No other nation boasts the same record: France follows with five editions, and Hungary with four.
For the first time, Women’s EuroBasket will be hosted across four countries, unlike previous editions, which were split between two nations. In 2025, Italy will share hosting duties with the Czech Republic (Brno), Germany (Hamburg), and Greece (Piraeus), which will host the finals on June 29.
The Italian Women’s National Team has only played in Bologna twice: on March 29, 1952, in a friendly match against Belgium, and on August 30, 2008, at PalaDozza, during the Women’s EuroBasket 2009 Qualifiers. This year, the Azzurre, automatically qualified as the host country and currently leading Group I with three wins out of four, are gearing up to compete for the European title in the evening matches of the tournament.
The event will bring the best women’s basketball teams in Europe to Bologna, along with thousands of fans eager to cheer for their national teams, further cementing Bologna’s status as a sports capital in Italy.
